Want a smoother, more powerful forehand? Here are 3 keys that make the difference:
Grip
* Two fingers pressed against the inside rim, thumb locked on top.
* Turn your fingers into the rim, not sideways — this keeps the motion natural and prevents that “karate chop” wobble.
* Tuck the disc deep into the webbing of your hand for more control and cleaner spin.
Lead with your elbow
* Don’t muscle the throw with just your shoulder.
* Start the motion by bringing your elbow forward, then let your wrist snap through.
* This generates more speed with less strain — and way more consistency.
Follow through & weight shift
* Finish down the fairway, not across your body.
* Let your weight shift onto your front foot so you’re leaning forward at release.
* This keeps the disc on line and adds distance without extra effort.
Disc Choice: Start with something around speed 9 with a flat top like an Escape. Overly beefy drivers might mask mistakes, but they won’t help you actually improve.
At the end of the day, a forehand isn’t about raw arm power, it’s about clean mechanics, good angles, and confidence in your release. Nail these fundamentals, and you’ll unlock one of the most versatile shots in disc golf.
