Early November Bobby played in the 2025 Emporia Freedom Fest, an event built to honor Veterans and bring the community together. It was a great reminder of why stepping into a tournament every now and then can change how you see disc golf.
Most of us stick to casual rounds. We laugh off bad shots and enjoy the company, and that is great. But a tournament creates a different experience. Your focus sharpens, the pressure rises, and you find out how your game responds when every throw matters. You also meet people you may never play with otherwise, and that connection adds something you cannot get from a normal weekend round.
Freedom Fest also supports several important causes that directly impact Veterans and their families. Funds help send Veterans on Honor Flights with local students, provide scholarships to military families, support the All Veterans Memorial in Emporia, and ship care packages to service members around the world. Being part of that purpose made the day even more meaningful.
If you have never played a tournament before, we encourage you to try one. It may push you a little, it may make you nervous, and it may teach you something new about your game. It can also help you feel more connected to the disc golf community and remind you why this sport matters.
Thank you to all Veterans for your service, and thank you to everyone who helps make Freedom Fest possible.
